Alex’s Army Support New Research Initiative
Anti-Tumor Activity of Paclitaxel-Containing Regimens in Recurrent/Refractory Wilms Tumor
A multi-institutional study was conducted and published results showing how paclitaxel-based treatments may offer real promise for children with recurrent or treatment -resistant Wilms tumor. In this study, nearly 60% of patients experienced tumor shrinkage or disease stabilization- a meaningful advancement. Based on this study, the Children’s Oncology Group is planning to study paclitaxel prospectively in patients with high-risk recurrent Wilms tumor. Alex’s Army Bowl Games
Our awesome friends at the Gainesville Haymarket Youth Football League (GHYFL) have joined the fight against childhood cancers and are GOING GOLD once again!!! GHYFL are hosting the Alex’s Army Bowl Games Saturday, September 6th and our team has donned the football fields with Gold Ribbons to be displayed all month! Like many youth sports organizations, the Grizzlies have had many of their football families fight childhood cancer firsthand – together we stand united in support of their fight and in honor of all children and families across the country.
Bringing LOVE and warmth
We are so thankful to finally be able to return to the Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology unit at Inova Fairfax Children’s Hospital for the first time since COVID. There is nothing better than serving up a warm meal, delivering smiles and bringing with us lots of Alex’s Army LOVE to families going through the unimaginable

10th Annual Driving for a Cure
On Monday, May 5th, we held our 10th Annual Driving for a Cure Golf Tournament at Piedmont Golf Club in Haymarket, VA. It was another amazing day of golf, friends, and fundraising. The weather held out for us, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day despite a forecast of storms and hail! We had the opportunity to thank the sponsoring companies and golfers who have been with us since our very first golf tournament event and those who have played with us for many years! Thank You to all (both returning and new) of our Sponsors, Golfers, Donors, and Volunteers who joined us to help make a difference for families who know what it’s like to watch their child fight cancer! We truly could not do what we do without your support.

Each of these recipients embodies strength, determination, love for their respective sports and life itself, we are honored to be able to be a small part of each of their journeys.
We were able to award a total of $11,500 through this year’s scholarships! Thank you to all who support our mission and who continue to be a part of Alex’s Army so that together we can make a difference in the lives of children (and athletes) whose lives are forever changed by a childhood cancer diagnosis!
