Funding Research. Previously we have been able to provide research funding through world class organizations such as Children’s Oncology Group, the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute, and Children’s National Medical Center now called Children’s National Hospital. In 2019, at our Hearts of Gold Gala, we were honored to name Dr. Jeffrey Dome as Alex’s Army Research Advisor as well as announce our partnership with the amazing research team at Children’s National in Washington, D.C. Because childhood cancer remains the #1 cause of death by disease for children in our country and because childhood cancer research currently receives less than 4% of the total national cancer research budget, we remain committed and passionate about doing our part to help find cures! Our goal is to help support new research through providing whatever funding we can in order to help make a difference in treatment options available to children fighting childhood cancers. Raising Awareness. Alex’s Army actively participates in awareness events such as Curefest DC, Rallies at the NIH, and awareness campaigns to help spread the word that our kids deserve MORE! We host our own events throughout the year such as our 5Ks and Fun Runs, Battle of the Bands, our Driving for a Cure Golf Tournament, we have even held a few Official Guinness World Records attempts (#twentyforAlex / #twenty4allkids) to not only fundraise toward our mission but to #beavoice and spread the word regarding the lack of funding Childhood Cancers are current receive. Childhood Cancers are the #1 leading cause of death by disease in the United States yet combined receive less than 4% of the National Cancer Research Budget. Making a Difference through Faith, Hope, and Love. Through our Prayer Pillowcase Project, Kids Helping Kids care packages, monthly Hospital visits, our Prayer Team, Faith, Hope, Love events, Forever in our Hearts Kites for bereaved families, our Love & Pickles meals team, and so much more – we want to be a source of Christian focused support to the Childhood Cancer Community. It is our hope to #BElove and to be a source of encouragement for families and children who are hurting and will be forever impacted by hearing the words, “Your child has cancer.”
