13th Birthday/Awareness Event Recap

On Saturday, April 8th, 2017 – Alex’s Army came together as #onevoice with other childhood cancer focused organizations from the Northern VA area and together attempted to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the Most people performing push ups!!! The event titled There is Strength in Numbers was held on what would have been Alex’s 13th Birthday and was held not only in honor of him, but to honor ALL children who are fighting, who have fought, and who will fight childhood cancers.

It was such a wonderful day filled with so many blessings. There were food trucks, guest speakers such as Gainesville District Supervisor Pete Candland, Stillbrave Founder Tom Mitchell, Hopecam Founder Len Forkas, and prayer led by Park Valley Church Lead Pastor Barry White.

Even though we didn’t break the Guinness World Record for the Most people performing push-ups in this initial attempt, we ended up with 1,108 people from all over our community coming together for a #greatercause on Battlefield High School’s football field ALL doing push-ups TOGETHER! We were SO CLOSE as the record was 1,645 people…we know our Alex and all of the sweet children who have left us too soon were so incredibly proud!

And just as children fighting cancer do not give up – WE are NOT going to give up. Stay tuned for exciting information coming soon!

Our 3rd Annual Kids Helping Kids Care Package Donation Drive is about to kick-off in March 2017, and we are looking for participation from local Northern Virginia Area Schools and Organizations to help us reach even MORE hospitals this year!

Attached on this page are information pamphlets that you can use to reach out to your school or organization. Contact information for this years’ drive can be found on the attached Letter of Support. We will walk through step by step with your school or organization, so that you have everything you need to make your drive a success!

Our Kids Helping Kids Care Package Donation Drive is a GREAT way for kids in the community to GET INVOLVED and to help their classmates whose lives have been forever changed by childhood cancer!

Faith, Hope, Love 2016

While part of our mission is to help fund research for new treatments for childhood cancers and a large portion of our funding is allocated for this purpose, another big aspect of our mission is to provide Christian focused support for families impacted by this dreadful disease.

In 2016, we had our first ‘Faith, Hope, Love’ event for the childhood cancer community which featured Grammy Award Winning Christian singer/songwriter Laura Story for a night of encouragement and love. Laura shared her testimony and performed songs such as “Blessings” and “Perfect Peace”.

We had a separate children’s event with games, activities, and magic from our friend Turley the Magician! All guests were welcomed with a gift basket of goodies donated by local vendors such as Tranquility Day Spa, information from other local non-profits such as Healing Hearts Respite, and our very own Faith, Hope, Love coffee mug filled with Hershey kisses. Alex’s Army hosted this free event for the childhood cancer community and it truly was a night of Faith, Hope, and Love!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this night magical, special thanks to:

To our planning committee and volunteers

…and finally to all the families who were able to join us and help make it a night to remember!
